do I need G Sync?

I have a 1080 DT and a 3440X1440 free sync monitor at 60 Hz. I heard that now any free sync monitor can support g sync when connected through a display port cable. Is Gync that much better than v sync? 

Also, I am getting about 55 fps in games like Division 2 and Ghost recon on High graphic settings, does this sound right? I kinda expected more.

First, did you mean 1080 Ti? Next, nvidia has freesync monitors that they have certified to work with g sync but there are others that will work. I suggest looking online for your monitors model and seeing if people have gotten gsync to work ok or not.

Tweak some more settings, like AA.  Play around until you get 60 solid.  It's doable.

 

G Sync rocks, but Freesync is almost as good.  

V Sync needs to die.

I'm assuming you mean GTX 1080. You're pretty close to gaming at 4k so 55fps sounds about right. If you have vsync on your 55fps will be cut down to 30fps. If you turn on freesync you will get a smooth 55fps.

see your monitor is g sync compatible (though you haven't mentioned abt model)

 

And g sync is v sync except every worst parts of it.

my monitor is not on the supported list, but I think Ill try it anyways

When I used a EVGA GTX 1080 SC that run a hundred mhz higher than yours with a 60hz 3440 X 1440 monitor everything was over 60fps but that was in 2017. 

I think your frame rate is about right without an overclock. 

 

I used vsync most of the time since the monitor did not support Freesync or G-sync. It did have some screen tear issues but nothing that could not be tweaked away.

With a GTX 1080 ti all the issues I had with the monitor went away.

 

I now use 2 Freesync monitors and they don't like my Nvidia GPUs so I either use vsync or nothing. 

 

I did use a monitor with a G-sync module for a while and it was perfect.
