Will a 7th gen core i3-7100 go into a ASUS Intel 8th Gen micro atx board

I bought the ASUS Intel 8th Gen micro atx board bc I plan on buying a new 8th gen cpu so i got the motherboard and I was wondering can I pop my i3-7100 in the board and wait till I get the new cpu to put it in or should or do I have to wait for a 8th gen CPU

Negative. 7th gen CPUs, can only work in 1XX and 2XX series boards, 3X boards only work with 8th and 9th gen CPUs. This is the simplest answer...

No, also that board you bought is as low end as it gets... I'd only go as far as an i5 9400F on it while have in mind you might have to update it's BIOS to support 9th gen.

if willing to go used I would say cruise ebay for an i5 8400 helped a friend do a budget build and we scored one for ~125 after a few days of bidding. he basically only plays WoW so its more than he needs. he threw it in a b series but honestly if its a now build not a 10 year build a h series might be fine. depends what you want to do with it.
