I would get 750w or above to be safe. Those cards use alot of power.

Hey @BenjiGoneMad

I think any 80+ gold 600 watt power supply should be enough. Look for one in a price range you're happy with that is by corsair or seasonic, in my opinion.

Maybe someone else can recommend some other brands, but they are the 2 brands I personally feel strongly to recommend.

Get a 800watt or so PSU. That'll leave some room for overclocking :)

@Elven 600watts isn't enough. I have a 700watt (granted it's 80+ bronze) PSU and it couldn't handle a HD 7990 while under heavy load.  7990 is more power efficient than 2x 280X's in CF. So you would need even more power.

I know. Such a shame  :(

but glade that I could help inform fellow members. I am sure that I have stuff to learn from you too  :P

Indeed! I am not as familiar with AMD cards, as I have used Nvidia cards for many years, but I do find AMD cards amazing (as of lately with all the new technology and features coming out with them)

a good psu like seasonic G 450W can handle the 7970 no problems+oc.

any decent 750W psu will do. if you want gold take a look at super flower golden green 7-800,  seasonic G 750, corsair hx 750,cooler master v 700,seasonic  x 750 whichever its avaible in your country and cheaper. you pc would use ~500W full load.

I have two 7970's in CF with a i7 processor. I'm running a 1300w 80+ Gold PSU and before upgrading from my 850w 80+ Bronze PSU I looked at those websites that can calculate the approximate wattage based off of your system. Most of the websites recommended at least 950w, so I got my 1300w PSU on sale and it's pretty sweet. Let me know if you would like a link. Good luck with your hunt for a PSU.

I forgot to mention that I'm running MSi Lightning versions of the 7970's and they draw more than a typical vanilla 7970.

id like a link :)

Here you go.

This PSU is out of stock, but perhaps you could try amazon. Also, I would perhaps wait for a sale because I bought this guy for about ~$180 I think. Hope this helps.

thats a very good psu but you went massive overkill. you can power like 5 7970 ghz with that

I don't think it's overkill

it is. leave those websites and other psu calculators . a 1300 W psu can power 5 7970 + all the fans you can put in the case. your pc is in the ~500W zone at full load

even lower . check this http://youtu.be/mgU8gSM38U0?t=5m55s   3x 280X(7970ghz) + i7 six core full load 600W

You wasted a lot of money on that power supply friend. To the OP: any named brand (Seasonic, Corsair, XFX,) 750W power supply will be more than enough for any and all over clocking. (A 750W is easily enough for dual 780's)

Rofl 1300W psu for cards that are pulling max 250W@Air. A 650W psu should be fine for his needs. I have 2 780's + a 3930K and the evga supernova 1000 P2, the psu's fan only kicks in at 700W and when playing BF4 it never kicks in.
