Corruption On My External HDD

Hi,

I have an external HDD that I been using it since 2015. Since last year, some photos and videos on my archive, inside the external HDD corrupting randomly. Some folders aren't opening and giving "not-accessible" error. So 2 months ago I transferred all my files from the HDD, formatted it and put the files inside the HDD again. Seems okay, but later I saw some of the files I put into the HDD last week been corrupt again.

Is it means my HDD is old enough, should I buy a new one? What can I do to solve this issue (preventing my files to corrupt in the next times)?

Thanks. Sorry for a bit unnecessary topic, I'm a newbie here...

yes, data corruption only cab mean a damaged controller, buy another

to prevent data corruption you should keep multiple copies of files

never keep all your eggs on one basket, you know

Your HD is at " end of life". Get a new one.

I buy WD passports when they are on sale for storage. My last 2tb cost $65. This next Holiday season I will be looking for deals on 4tb ones.

At the price of a game and the ease of USB they are perfect for me.

I only use WD because they seem to last longer and have a low failure rate.

All my internal HDD were WD as well.

I had a graphics business and keeping customers project files for years was something I needed to do. The drives that seemed to have a high failure rate were Seagate and Fuji. Also the WDs seem to die slow so retrieving the data from them is easy.
