Hi! I have an older system I had built for me by a friend. the specs are listed:

i5-4690K

ASUS z97-A

8GB DDR3 1866MHz

EVGA GTX 1660

My question is: I currently play Destiny 2 and Apex Legends and want to play Cyberpunk when it comes out - currently i get around 35-45 FPS at 3840x2160 - is it worth upgrading my processor motherboard and ram or will I not see a boost in fps? The processor is running at 4.7GHz and I just wanted some guidance - I only want to play at 2160p with the settings either maxed or like, AA off and shadows on high instead of extreme.

I think basically I'm wondering if the new CPUs are going to make a vast improvement in games because as far as I can tell the 4690k is old, but has all the instruction sets 'n stuff.. I'm kind of a noob :P

P.S. I have a monoprice vivid 27" monitor and I love it almost as much as my cat. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Thanks in advance.

cyberpunk has not revealed recomended specs yet afik

most games these days will take advantage of more cores, those 4 cores soon will mot be enough, but not knowing more details, it would be a error to recommed you any specific part to upgrade to

Well at 4k you'll probably be experiencing two bottlenecks, the GPU and the CPU.

Max fps will be bad at 4k on a 1660, and minimum fps will be bad because of the CPU.

If you expect good experience at 4k in Cyberpunk, you'll need a modern CPU and a very powerful GPU

Your system is pretty weak in general for 4k. CyberPunk is a long way out still, just save for an entire system overhaul. You won't be able to keep anything aside from storage and the case.

You are GPU limited at 4k. Your low FPS is not CPU related.

So, I should just get a bigger graphics card?

1660 isnt the best card to run 4k.

For 1080p its excellent.

Idk what framerate you are aiming for, but for a very good framerate with no dials turned down. I will cost quite a bit

We don't know the required specs for Cyberpunk 2077. IMO they should be pretty high.

For 4K Maxed you should get a better GPU for sure i.e. 2080 TI, but you would need a small business loan to buy that moster ~1300€ here in Germany.
At this point I'm scared that the CPU could bottleneck* you (not 100% sure), which means now you have to upgrade the whole rig to play a single game.

*bottleneck - one or more componets are holding your PC back
