Identifying USB Connector

Go to solution Solved by electron2302,

This thread is quite old, but I stumbled over it in my own search for this connector, I belief to have found it.
Even if @DrDray no longer needs the answer, maybe someone else finds it and I can spare him some time researching.

I am 99 % sure in my findings but could confirm them yet, so take them with a grain of salt.

I believe the connector is from the company “fischerconnectors” from their Core-Series. The socket has 7 pins, Keying-code 1, and from the dimensions I belief it is the 102 series.

The socket in the laptop I belief is specifically the “AL1731-DBPU-102-A056PB11-11G13”

Research is based on this extensive PDF.

Hey guys, at work we have these weird USB connectors that I've never seen before and can't find online, has anyone seen them before or know what they're called?

The other end of the cable is just a standard Mini B.

It's for a genuine Volkswagen scan tool and the cable keeps breaking and costs around 200 USD and are only lasting a couple of months. Part number for the cable is ASE40543501000 if you want another look.

I'm hoping it's not a propriety VW connector..

Wait, if you have that at work... Don't you know what it's for already?

I'm no car person, but that ain't a standard looking USB connector.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if it was literally just standard USB with nothing special about it, that was wired in a different shape just to charge you more for it.

Yes we know what it's for but just wanting to know what the shape/connector is called to try and buy some cheaper cables online. I'm thinking it's just a re-pinned standard USB plug but with a special connector.

You have two years of warranty on this cable, right? (That's what I am finding on Volkswagen's product page), so can't you utilize that if it breaks so often/soon?

Unfortunately I couldn't find any such connector.

Hello,

I Could not confirm that the wanted Connector is from Fischer. Maybe it is possible that this connector is compatible but i'm not shure.

But the unidentified Connector is marked with ODU. And that is the Manufacturer of this Connector.

Quick search revealed this Information :

ODU , Mini-Snap , Series F , Size 0 , Coding 1 , 7 Pin

The needed Part Number should be

S10F1C.P07MCC0

or

S20F1C.P07MCC0

or

S30F1C.P07MCC0

or

S40F1C.P07MCC0

depending on the preferred backside of the Connector.

----

Today I got 2 of these VAS6154/4A Cables, both had bend Pin's on these Connectors. Had found them but struggled about the form of the Pinning. Thanks to DrDray , now I know that these Connectors originally had 7 Pin's and not 4. Maybe these are Costomized.

Hope this will help anyone who searches because of the same issue.

Thought I would answer this question for anyone, it is a Fischer MiniMax connector, looks to be used for defense dept's which is why it's hard to find

https://fischerconnectors.com/en/solutions/connectors/minimax-series/

Haven't had any luck actually tracking down cables to buy not through VW, but still having the same issues of the cables breaking prematurely.

To answer someone question about warranty, it's quite difficult to claim it as they claim misuse.

It's also not ideal having a tester down for 4-5 weeks while we wait for a cable to arrive, let alone the warranty claim/processing time.

We just keep a spare on hand and take the cost on the chin, not worth the hassle.
