New School Laptop.

Hi all

Recently my laptop has been doing bad things, so I'm thinking about a new one. It will be used for schoolwork, web browsing and light gaming (Minecraft, maybe some mobile games).

The main thing I'm looking for here is reliability. It needs to last a while. Here are some other requirements:

Under 1600NZD (1060USD)

At least 8GB of RAM, but the more the better

Good WiFi connectivity

At least 256GB of storage

At least a 1080p screen

Good battery life

Good build quality. I would prefer a metal chassis, but as long as its well made I can accept a plastic one.

And some nice to haves:

Windows Hello, or a fingerprint reader, or something like that

Good I/O (don't mind dongles, but they aren't free)

Good looks. I prefer function over form, but if it looks good I won't complain.

Dedicated GPU. I don't really need it, please consider all the other things first.

PLEASE NOTE I LIVE IN NEW ZEALAND

Thinkpad X1 Carbon, the newest you can afford (I got a 4th gen with an i5, 8GB RAM, and 128GB of storage for about 650 CAD, so you can probably even get a new one or last-gen one for your budget).

Quote me to see my reply!

It needs to last about 7 hours at the least while using internet stuff (Google Docs and web browsing)

I don't really care if the RAM is upgradable or not, as long as its at least 8GB. That would be a nice to have.

Sorry, I'm not too good with display stuff, what's sRGB?

Basically higher sRGB means colours are more vibrant

Any links of online stores in your country that sell laptops?

I don't really mind a low sRGB, but higher would be nice.

That's the main store, it's kinda overpriced, but they have the most options, and I might be able to price match anyway.

If you want good reliability I would recommend getting business grade laptops, however they aren't cheap

If you don't have any particular preference on display size:

Lenovo Thinkpad L390 with FHD IPS (L390 Yoga also decent)

Lenovo Thinkpad X395 - non-upgradeable RAM

If you can get student discount:

Lenovo Thinkpad T490

Also take a look at Latitude 7000 series and Elitebook 800 series
