Whats the difference?

There's a lot of difference.

 

The controller is different (Samsung has a better one).

The NAND is different (Samsung has a better one).

Samsung is NVMe, HP is SATA3.

The Samsung has DRAM Cache, HP does not.

Samsung manufactures in-house.

HP outsources everything.

 

List probably goes on... I wouldn't buy either though... Intel 660p has 1TB for 94$

You should look at the crucial p1 or the Intel 660p

It's pretty misleading of you to just throw the 660p and p1 in without mentioning that they cant even beat the Samsung drive in anything but price. Imo they arent even customers, they serve different markets.

660p and P1 are both QLC drives, both much slower than sth like a 970 Evo but still faster than SATA SSDs. As a boot drive it doesnt matter how fast they are, boot duration are similar. Games show bigger difference, but I'd rather get more capacity than more speed.
