I'm trying to put together a new rig for the road before my laptop takes a dump. I spend most of my time on the road doing cad, gaming and other design. Mostly solidworks.

Can anyone recommend a large ish sturdy case that'll support my graphics card? I'm debating on making a soft platform for the case to sit on with some up/down side to side travel to reduce hard shock from things like speedbumps. Is there such a thing as making your case too rigid?

there are several small cases that would work pretty well for this (assuming you have normal size GPU), a silverstone ml08 might work nicely, you can get one with a handle and it has full size GPU support. I recommend something with a riser because bumps could put strain on the motherboard connector with a large heavy GPU in the slot.

why no dark mode?

I'm planning on a 2060 to 2080 if I can afford it. I'm hoping to add a proper cad gpu down the line but it's out of my budget atm. Definitely using a full size card. Would like raid capability for redundant spinning drives for my media and dual ssd also. My total budget is around 1500$ or so.

Doesn't have to be a small case either. I have 12x36x24 set aside space wise.

Well a case like the Silverstone ML08 would also mount the GPU in a way that it's not going to break the motherboard when jumping around due to stress. However, I have to ask what kind of modeling are you doing, as lots of rendering/simulation puts a hard load on the CPU of your choice, and the ML08 only allows for low profile tower coolers to be used

I'm in training to be a firearms engineer for competition firearms. Each assembly will be between 200 and 500 unique pieces. If the cooler butts up against the door of the case I can mod the door for a higher clearance. I have access to a full metal shop with the exception of a lathe and mill. I'm definitely going air cooled rather than liquid though. I'm currently a TAB engineer by trade so I can add extra airflow fairly easily.

Build so far. Not committed to ram or hdd. I know I want a 2080 or 2070 but not sure on brand.
