dead r9 280x ????

Go to solution Solved by AhmedFromKSA,

it turns out that the card did actually die, and i managed to get a replacement... what are the odds of this happening twice in a row lol?

Hey guys, I just checked my mining PC wich has an msi r9 280x through remote desktop on it and cgminer labeled it as dead. So I pluged in a monitor to it and there was no display from the graphics card, the fans also cycled from high to low and low to hight every few seconds. So can anyone help me figure what is wrong....

( I think my gpu died but I cant see if im right at the moment so I was hoping for a different diagnosis )

current PC:
/|| Case: coolermaster cm690 windowed || Motherboard: gigabyte GAZ68XP-UD3 || CPU: i5 2500 || RAM: 2 random samsung 4GB dims || GPU: GTX470 || PSU: coolmax 850w || Storage: segate 1TB + 60GB ssd cache (intel RST) || GPU CPU cooled by custom cooling loop ||\

cgminer labels gpus dead when they unsynch or something. Just close cgminer and launch it again.

However, having no video input may be a sign that windows crashed, which is not a big deal neither. Try rebooting the "hard" way.

Unfortunately this was the first thing I did but cgminer didnt start mining after I restarted it.

Close cgminer and inspect the card when you can. See that fans spin, that leds on the pcb light up, if any. That bios/boost button light up, if you have one of those. Try uninstalling and reinstalling video drivers. Try the card in a "regular desktop" as a video out and do a test run (benchmark or whatever).

I'm pretty sure there's nothing to worry about.

hey Elite, sorry i wasn't being very specific before but i didn't have a lot of time. i know that windows didn't crash because when i connected the monitor to the graphics card there was no display but when i connected to the onboard there was and windows was running fine, but when i went to computer management then device manager the card didn't show

I tried an old 4550 i had on the mining PC and it worked fine.

The fans do spin, but there aren't any LEDs on the PCB. So then i tried the card on my PC  but there was the same problem, no display from the graphics card but there was from the onboard, then i installed the drivers but still no display from the card.

I'm still open to any suggestions if anyone has any

Have you tried any of the other video outputs on the card?

Well that would imply that you didn't turn off the computer before you swapped the cards, that may have shorted it if it wasn't already.

Maybe not though, that's just a guess I'm making.

Twice, somewhat uncommon.. If it happens three times, and you should consider replacing everything. It's likely the power supply or motherboard which is faulty and shorting out your cards. Check installation to make sure everything is adequately grounded/screwed in.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

Ask me about Bitcoin, Litecoin, Crypto-Currencies, and/or Mining them.
