I have an i5 3570k, 7870, a couple of fans and 2 HDDs. My power supply is either failing or just not enough power leading to some crashes (bluescreens) and it's 450W I think. Will 600W be enough? Will it be enough if I want to consider a second graphics card in the future?

My friend has a 600W, 6 core amd and 7850. Once we ran it with my 7870 too for about an hour. Considering that amd uses more power, I think this proves that 600 will be even enough for 2 graphics cards (equal comparison except I have intel instead of amd) although tell me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for any advice

600W good for:

  • Now? Yes
  • Second graphics? possibly not

How would this explain a 7870 + 7850 + amd 6300 running completely fine on the 600W at the time?

I did say possibly not. A power supply typically runs most efficiently around 50-60% load, so yes, 600W probably could run both of those, but why reduce lifespan and efficiency for an extra $20 or so on your PSU for a 700W?

A 7870 needs maybe 150w. + gpu and the rest would be somewhere around 450w max usage. 600w would be a good choice. But buying 2 7870 seems not too smart :-) .just go with one powerfully card and for one gpu+gpu you don't need more than a quality 500w psu. You build right now would run on a 350w psu

You could run the system off of a cx430 with an adapter if you really wanted to.

It'd recommend a decent 500w for a single 7870 and 650w for 2.
