Laptop WiFi disconnecting at random

Mr. Rabbit

Good evening!

I have a 5 year old Asus K550J, and it has some problems already, like both SHIFT keys not working.

Lately, I have also been having trouble connecting to the internet using an Ethernet cable, as it starts to disconnect after a bit, but I thought it was because of my router (which it also might be).

But yesterday I couldn't use the internet even over WiFi. It randomly disconnected. During the all afternoon, it would disconnect very often (sometimes it took seconds between each time).

At first I thought it was the router and restarted it, but the problem continued.

I tried to use my phone with the WiFi, and I had absolutely no problems, as did my sister who was using her PC and smartphone.

Today it is disconnecting way less often, but when it starts doing it, it does it for some minutes at least (forcing me to use the smartphone)

My guess is that the network adapter is dying.

Do you think this might be the problem?

Is there any solution for this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

5 of my users have these laptops and two of them needed replacement wireless cards. Simply updating the drivers or reinstalling Windows didn't help the problem.

Luckily enough you can pick up a half decent Intel mini pci-e card off Amazon for around £20. As long as you have some experience taking a laptop apart it's easy enough to do yourself.

Hope you get it working!
