GPU?

amd_fanboy

So i have an amd a8 6600k, and i use the integrated GPU and was thinking of maybe getting a discrete one. I do not intend to play battlefield at 4k on ultra settings. I play TF2 maxed out and some BF3 on low settings at 720p, and am noticing some lag on battlefield, and was wondering if there would be a significant difference if i got a 7770 or a r7 260x(or similiar cards) and added it to my system. Like would i be able to play BF3 at 1080p on medium settings and recieve playable frame rates on either of these cards.

Yes, a really significant difference. If you're looking for something cheap and powerful get the R7 260X definitely.

Well, maybe. I think you'd be better off getting something like a GTX 660 or 660ti though. (Or a 7870?)

EDIT: Nevermind. Go for the R7 260X.

At lower price points (such as that of the 260x), I would personally recommend getting a used card rather than buying a new one like the 260x. Perhaps you should look into a used 6870. I can get over 30fps easily on high settings in 1080p bf3 with that card.

R7 260X will play better than that.

r7-260x will beat the 6870.  The clock speed is amazing.

Looks like the 6870 is actually a bit faster than the 260x. (both benchmarks in the same part of the game performed by the same website). Advantage of the 260x is more video memory (2gb as opposed to 1gb). If you can find the 6870 for cheaper than the 260x I would get that.

Most reliable chart ever

I stand corrected:

Then again the performance difference would probably be a lot smaller on high detail settings because ultra relies heavily on the higher amount of video memory that the 260x has over the 6870.

Personally I'd save mah penny's for a better card, but, any 260x should be fine if you really want one.

But the HD 6870 is an older card, I would rather spend 140 for better cooling (most HD 6870's were reference), newer technology and better performance.

Go with this one, it has 2 GB of memory and, like the others, it comes with 2 games.

I'd recommend going with a 650Ti 2GB, but if that's too expensive the 260X should bee fine too.

I played BF3 on medium settings with a 7770, zero problems. A 260x will do just fine for that or less, if you need any more get a 7870 or 270x.

Intel 4670k, MSI Z97 Krait Edition, 2 x 4 Gbs G-Skill Trident X 2400 Mhz, CPU full W/C loop, Sapphire R9 290-flash to a 290x, Samsung 840Pro 128 Gb SSD, Seagate 1 Tb Hdd, Seasonic SS660x2 Platinum PSU, NZXT 2m white sleeved LED strip. 9 Fans all Corsair SP or AF except 1 80mm high speed for NB/VRM cooling. Corsair 750 full tower case.
