Recommend me a budget graphics card

bondoao1

I will soon be in the market for a new graphics card, but I'm married with children and a mortgage.

I want to upgrade from my MSI GTX 650 (1gb N650-MD1GD5/OC) to something that will be better suited for my needs.
When I'm playing GTA5 RP, I have to have my video settings almost all the way down, or I get serious lag/glitching.

I have no issues with games such as COD/Titanfall (1&2)

My budget tho is around $150 USD.

My system consists of:
MSI Z270 Pro gaming carbon

I7 -6700K

Corsair H60 AIO
Crucial 16gb ram (2400 :( )

Antec neo eco 520c PSU

Thanks in advance.

An RX 580 from eBay is the best card you can get for that cash. I would recommend the R9 fury, but the NEO ECO is listed as tier C on our tier list so I don't trust it with anything too demanding.

edit:

alternatively, this 1060 GDDR5X version is a compelling buy

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Budget of ~$150 USD would place you in RX 570 and GTX 1650 territory, if you buy new. I'd lean toward the RX 570, it seems to outperform the GTX 1650 in GTA 5. As we see in this review, 4GB vs. 8GB VRAM doesn't mean much of a difference at 1080P very high settings (4GB had better averages, lol), but the RX 570 8GB variant is within your budget.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I will read the article you posted and look into the RX570.

If you go 10-20 bucks higher you could get an 8gb rx 580 which would be better suited for modern games (not saying the 570 is bad tho cause you can pick one up for about $130 now), just... dont get the 1650 unless you absolutely need a card that doesn't require external power.

Heres an rx 580 for 185 with 15 bucks off with a promo code on newegg: https://www.newegg.com/sapphire-radeon-rx-580-100411p8gocl/p/N82E16814202278?Item=N82E16814202278&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm

PowerColor RX570

They are a second tier manufacturer, I'd recommend spending the extra few bucks and sticking to top shelf manufacturers like ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, Sapphire, XFX and EVGA.

Will do, the other one I was looking at is the MSI RX570, but I will have to wait a bit longer to get that one.

PowerColor are solid cards. They're on the budget end compared to Sapphire or MSI, but in this market segment you should be looking for a good price on the card instead of buying the best card available. I see Newegg has an MSI RX 570 Armor at $170 which makes absolutely no sense to buy when there are RX 580 models at that same price.

I've purchased 2 or 3 PowerColor video cards over the years and have never had a technical problem with them. The only complaint I have is that their extremely tacky sticker eventually peeled off the blower shroud for my HD 4870 back in the day, which revealed a pristine reference cooler underneath. And good riddance... it got rid of their bevel emboss & outerglow hackjob they pass as "graphics design." The sticker falling off was basically a free cosmetic upgrade! ?

There's a Sapphire RX 570 4gb on sale on Amazon for $119.99 for prime day. I would suggest that. It'd be a pretty nice upgrade from a 1gb 650 and well within your budget.

Sold out on Amazon. Newegg has some for $133.99. A very respectable price.

@bondoao1, If you have not done so already. Have you thought about putting your OS + Games onto an Solid State Drive? It will reduce buffer times and improve load times drastically.

I would recommend 570 4GB at $150 range for 1920 x 1080 Very High on GTA V.

If you plan on using a few Lighting/Texture mods on GTA V, then the 8GB model is going to help as textures will cap your 4GB VRAM and cause issues in gameplay.

I'm looking at migrating my os+games over to a MP510 M.2 SSD soon.

I think I finally decided on a graphics card based on recommendations here.
I decided on the MSI RX570 4gb, and hopefully I will be able to get it in another week or so.

Ya, I was hoping you would catch that deal but no biggy. Rx 570 is still the card I would recommend you. Just keep an eye out for deals like that.

If you're willing to go used there are often very good deals on ebay for used RX 580 8 gb. I just picked one up for less than $120. Just be sure to test it ASAP when it arrives and pay over paypal and you're good to go.

I dont use ebay, I use Amazon primarily and Newegg if they have a better price.
I also would rather pay a few $ more and get new, at least if there is a problem, I can always return it/get a new one.

Yes, it is a good mid-range card but it's not a significant improvement over a RX 580. I haven't looked at 580 prices lately but I would price both and if the difference is only a few dollars, definitely go with a RX 590. If I recall, it performs roughly 10% better than a RX 580 in certain applications. IMO, not worth it if the difference in price is $40-50.

The RX 580 is $219.99, and the Sapphire Nitro+ RX590 is on sale for $189.99 at a shop here. I asked the manager how long the sale is and he said it will be on sale till Aug 9th.

Personally I would jump on that ?

I'm actually very tempted to sell my RX 570 (thinking I can get ~$100 for it on ebay, maybe) and buy that 590

I get paid on Friday, and I will stop by their shop after work on Sat. to pick one up. Either way it will be way better than the GTX 650 I've been using for 7? years...

Oh yeah, different leagues...LOL

I'll probably just keep my 570 for now, I just built this PC 6 months ago and don't think the $90 or so difference for +15-20% performance improvement is worth it in my case. I'm anxiously waiting to see if AMD releases more mid-grade options in the future
