Pfsense installation help

when i try to install PFsense via a usb memory stick it is stuck on this. This happens after i agree to the copyright policy. Please help

Did you try a reinstall? A different usb stick?

a old compaq laptop amd phenom 6gb ram, 100Mbs ethernet 

 

yes, this is latest version with the serial as VGA, and memstick installer 

 

yes tried with a differnet usb

that really aint helping you there, id really try to get something newer. freebsd hasen't had the best compatibility with older hardware like this.

 

Id personally try a different router distro unless you need pfsense, try opensense and untangle.

do they have support for vlans and web caching?

yep and yep.

 

But do you really need webcaching, it often doesn't help much in a small network or home from my testing.

 

Are you trying to vlan all the lan + wan + other from the single laptop port? Id just get more usb nics, esp as its only 100mbit. Lots of low end nics on laptops also just don't support vlans.

no, im setting up bonding for my windows server 2016 to get faster transfers so i need vlans other wise the router gets confused where to send eachn packet.

You don't want network bonding for that then, you want smb multichannel, and that doesn't need vlans at all.

 

ALso you don't need a router that supports vlans to use vlans on a network, you can do it all on the switches.

why not just use smb multichannel here, it would work better and would be much easier to setup and use.

well wifi is gonna be slow, so bonding won't help you with wifi at all.

also that is linux only and you want windows.

 

also 10gbe stuff is cheap, thats what id get if you want faster network transfers.

my wifi get 50MBs and my ethernet gets 90MBs. my wifi is slower as my router uses half duplex not full meaning i cant get full gigabit.

so you want to combine wifi and wired?

 

Gigabit is only full duplex, so how are you getting half duplex for gigabit?

 

What is your network diagram? What link are you trying to spee dup.

nope, via wifi it is half duplex , wired is full duplex,

yes, i want a faster wifi connection, same as ethernet, i have a hauwei b525 and it only supports half duplex via WIFI which is why i want pfsense

all wifi is half duplex, thats just how the standard is made, and its shared by devices.

 

What clients do you have? They may be limiting you here.

 

Pfsense won't help you get faster wifi, you need better access points if you want better wifi.

 

Id get something like a unifi ap-hd series or a high end consumer router if you want faster wifi.

Basicallly 1 Laptop. i5 7500u, gigabit ethernet port and wifi adapter.

so if you have wired why are you worried about wifi speeds?

1. i dont have ethernet connectvity in some places

So that 50mB/s seems to be around the max that wifi card can do, so without upgrading your laptop you can't get much more speed.

no its the router. it can only handle 867Mb/s and its half duplex for wifi
