Help with wifi/motherboard :)

Go to solution Solved by SPARTAN VI,

I haven't used a USB dongle for Wi-Fi in almost a decade, but considering that dongle tops out at 150Mbps on 2.4GHz and 433Mbps over 5GHz, it's a far cry away from what 802.11n and ac are really capable of. A decade ago, it wouldn't have really mattered, but if your Internet plan is capable of higher bandwidth than that, then your PC will be choked off from higher Internet speeds. Also if you plan on using your PC as a media server, it wouldnt risk choking it with a USB dongle.

This motherboard does not have built-in Wi-Fi, you will need a Wireless NIC adapter of some sort (e.g. USB or PCIe card).

This is generally what the Wi-Fi antenna ports would look like if a motherboard has it, though not always at the "top" of the I/O.

Ah Ok, thanks. So would plugging something Like this (See bellow), into the finished build, work? Allowing me to connect to my wifi?

An antenna-less USB dongle would probably work, but depending on a variety of environmental factors (distance from wireless AP, obstacles/walls, channel and band interference) I wouldn't count on it performing very well. I'd recommend a Wi-Fi NIC PCIe card with an external antenna so you can reposition the antenna without having to move the PC around. I've had a great experience with this Asus AC68 PCIe NIC: https://www.newegg.com/asus-pce-ac68-pci-express/p/N82E16833320173

Brilliant, Thank you! I'll take a look at that. Just curious. What are your thoughts about a USB with a dongle like this:
