You need to update the BIOS before installing the new chip, unless you have a motherboard with "BIOS Flashback" or similar abilities to update the BIOS without a CPU installed, then you need a 2000 or 1000 series chip first to do the update.

As @Lurick said above. What motherboard are you thinking of getting?  if you don't yet know I would recommend the MSI b450 Tomahawk, it has BIOS flashback so that you can update the BIOS with a USB thumb drive and pressing the BIOS flashback button on the back IO. There are several MSI motherboards that do this though, so if that doesn't fit your needs let us know and we can suggest something else hopefully.
