So I have a pair of Sennheiser HD598s and I have always used the front jack on my PC without thinking about it but would it make a noticably better difference in sound quality if I plugged it into the back jack directly into the mobo?

Depends on how well the front panel connectors and cables are insulated. I would throw a guess and say that yes, it will make a difference. Try and see for yourself.

Probably not.

I use my HD 598 with a Fiio e10 and it sounds really good. Much better than when I used the motherboard connector, or front panel.

How much is a Fiio? I have alot of money that Id like to save but if it helps I might buy one if they make a difference.

£50 - £70 on Amazon.

It made a good difference between the onboard sound.

I will nearly guarantee you that the sound through the back will be noticeably better than through the front IO. I used to use the front IO until I discovered what a ridiculous difference it made with my Rampage IV Extreme.

Well when I plug my headphones into the back of the computer they just dont work. My speakers turn on and when I go to playback options there is no option for my headset. I have tried rebooting the system but nope nothing.

That's pretty odd when it works with your front panel IO. In any case you will get a much better result with an external DAC solution like the Fiio E10.

Any solutions to what I can do to make the back work? Something tells me this is windows 8 fucking up.

My motherboard does something very similar, it seems only the front jack have an amp, and the back ports all send only signal without amplification, the back jacks work fine with speakers as they have their own amp, but can't drive headphones because it doesn't have enough power.   (Which actually makes sense, you are suppose to plug the headphones in the front jack.)

Mystery is the source of all true science.
