Switch or router ?

So I’m back home from school where I had FIOS 1gig internet to now 100mbps. Our WiFi router only operates on 2.4ghz and is kept in the closet. My room is upstairs and I get weak WiFi signal on my PS4 and Apple TV. I have a cat 6 cable that runs from the router to my computer upstairs. What’s my best solution to possibly connect all of those to that one cable?

You'd want a switch. For future-proofing make sure it's gigabit.

A switch in your bedroom would be best, then your ps4 and appleTV could also be wired.

Definitely just a switch - a router would need more configuration and could run into the issues of double NAT. For a use case like this, you don't need anything fancy (managed, PoE, etc.). I would suggest something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A121WN6/

 

For Wi-Fi, you could get that switch and then later down the road purchase a wireless access point such as Ubiquti's UniFi AP AC Pro.
