there are three items showed as going to fail soon. The read error rate(242),spin-up time(2 seconds) and reallocated sectors count(the value is 561 blocks). And it failed to pass the self-test in Ubuntu. The reallocated sector count has not changed since I low-level formatted the drive. I'm wondering when will this drive die.

BTW: Is the spin-up time normal? I don't think it needs 2 seconds to spin-up.

Could be any minute now.

Might be months away.

Hope you have backups.

For spinning disk if the 2 seconds spin up is for full on sleep mode thats totally fine.  You have to remember it has to go from Zero to many thousands of RPM in that time, so 2 seconds isn't bad.

If you had a load of bad sectors all appear at once but the number hasn't changed in a long time then the drive is normally fine, but no guarantees.  Hell, a brand new drive can go pop the day after you install the OS on it, so nothing it guaranteed here!

Keep a backup of your data, but then as a good PC user you're doing that already, right?
