Looking for new CPU / MOBO

Hello there guys,

so it’s been about a year and a half since I put together my PC. When I first got it I was currently playing at 1080p 60hz and my PC was equipped with a GTX 1060 combined with a Ryzen 5 1600x. As of recently, I have upgraded to a 144hz monitor aswell as my GPU to a RTX 2070. However, with the higher refresh rate of my monitor I am not quite happy with the performance that the Ryzen provides me with. Note that I mainly use the PC for gaming. I am now looking to upgrade my CPU to get higher frame rates to match with the refresh rate of my monitor. I’ve been told that intel will perform better than a Ryzen for what i need it for so I guess that I’ll have to upgrade my motherboard aswell, so if you guys could recommend one of those too it would be great. So what do you guys think? What’s a good CPU for 1080p 144hz gaming that will go well with my 2070 card.

I think that you should get a i9 9900k on a high end budget, a i7 7700k on the mid range budget, or overclock your current cpu and put a better cooler on it

Maybe wait until July 7th and get a new Ryzen 3000 chip. New motherboards will be released then too.

Do you believe this chip will perform better at single thread, more like a Intel Chip would?

Thank you, I’ll look into those! I have been considering overclocking my current CPU.  Although I don’t know much about it and I feel like guides just tell you to play around with the settings, which I do not feel comfortable with. The current cooler I have is a NZXT Kraken X42 140mm, which is watercooled. I don’t know if this cooler is enough for OC

Or we could consider AMD which offers more cores at all the price points, with pretty much the same performance. Why on earth would anyone pick a 7700k? 4 cores 8 thread flagships are yesterday's processors. 6 core is now the minimum for smooth gaming. Just look at games like Battlefield V. 4 cores 8 threads can struggle on that game with horrible stuttery lows.

And the 9900k costs an arm and a leg, and makes no sense considering AMD is about to offer a processor with pretty much the same performance at over $100 less.

Wait for Ryzen 3000, and get the ryzen 5 3600. That will give you the single-threaded performance you are after for 144hz.

I’ll do just that! Thank you very much!

Yeah, wait for Ryzen 3000.

Currently Intel is giving me the "meh" feeling.

Even tho I got an i9 9900k, I will be upgrading to a Ryzen 3000.
