Safe with a EVGA G3 550 and a GTX 1080?

Citycc

I've heard about the issues with the G3's in terms of over power protection and was wondering if is safe to put a gtx 1080 or overclock (along with my 2600x) it in my rig?

Specs:

  • Ryzen 2600x (OC with PBO)
  • EVGA G3 550 gold
  • X470 Taichi
  • Ripjaws V Series 16 GB DDR4-3200
  • 2 860 evo's
  • 5 case fans

Edit- I have had problems with the psu before with it shutting off randomly and not booting properly (was scary) and sent it in to be fixed if that makes it worse for wear.

Do you already have it? Should be fine. The system should draw like 250-300W under a gaming load, so overclocking shouldn't be a problem.

If you're considering buying a G3, I would recommend other options instead.

yeah, as long as you aren't pusing it to the limit. 1080s can draw 400W+ (source, friend has a 1080 classy on water)
