intel-9100f compatibility

i'm gonna be building a new pc soon and was going to pick up an i3-8100 with a asrock h310m-itx
but in further looking i've seen the 9100f which seems like a much more viable option (i don't need integrated graphics)
my only problems are that pcpartpicker says the motherboard will need a bios update, but i can't find anything else saying that's so, and ppp also says the cpu won't come with a stock cooler, which i don't think is true.
if anyone could clear things up for me that'd be amazing
thanks!

It should come with a stock cooler. There’s a large chance you will need a bios update for it to work. I would go with the 9400F or 2600 anyways, and even better, wait for Ryzen 3000.

i would rather shoot for a 2600 or 9400f but that nudges my build just out of my budget
i don't really need it to be the best of the best honestly though, cause i'm coming from a laptop with a 1.9ghz dual core and intel hd 4000 (can't even run minecraft)

This might work for you:

PCPartPicker Part List
Type Item Price
CPU AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz 6-Core Processor $117.40 @ OutletPC
Motherboard ASRock - B450 GAMING-ITX/AC Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard $84.99 @ Newegg
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
  Total $202.39
  Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-06-08 20:30 EDT-0400

The important thing is that with a good AM4 motherboard you get a real upgrade path, with a cheap H310 board you're stuck to an i5 at best (technically you can drop an i7 in but it would power throttle and be a waste.)

Also that ITX motherboard is on sale

Edited for itx

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

9100F's competitor will be the Ryzen 3 1200 in terms of being cheap, which... is cheaper.

$10 to bump you from 4 cores, no hyperthreading, and most likely not going to be compatible with the next generation of CPUs from what I've seen so far, to 6 cores, with SMT(AMD's hyperthreading) and a known upgrade path to AT LEAST the next gen, the Ryzen 3000 series. Definitely the better value IMHO.

Why?!
What leads you exactly to that?

Why such a low cost Intel and such a crap Board??

What is the System for? What does it do?

For Gaming:
MSI B450I with Ryzen 1600.

For Office:
ASROCK A300, wich requires SO-DIMMs though.

Either AThlon 200GE, 2200G, 2400G - whatever you feel like.

In that case you might want to look at the Ryzen 1600 or 2600 instead, wich is about the same price.

And here something interesting:

And in all more interesting, modern Games, the Ryzen 5 is faster than the 7600. ANd its only the 1600, not even the X...

And in some Games there is even some kind of stuttering or other Problems.

Just look at Battlefield 5, where the i5-7600K gets min fps far under 60...

Yes, it needs a BIOS Update.

And there are other Options for the same Price.

Getting a 50€ Board also isn't the best Idea either.

@Stefan Payne Thanks a lot for the HW unboxed video. During recent weeks, I've recommended 1600 for dirt cheap gaming solution (ie.: 100-110USD to spend on CPU, which is exactly the price of used 1600, even new can be bought for 120USD...)

It is good to know, that it was not a bad advice after all. And, as I see, BattleField V& Tomb Raider benefit well from more cores&threads. I assume, pro'lly in the future, more and more games would take advantage of more cores-threads. Or at least I think so.

Very good video, bookmarked!

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

I recommend getting a gigabyte motherboard, specifically the b360 aourus gaming 3 wifi because it has support for Q-Flash. If you don't know what that is, it's basically updating the bios with a usb and this doesn't any components other than than the mobo, psu, keyboard, and a monitor. But if you don't wanna deal with the hassle then go for a ryzen 5 1600 paired with a cheap mobo that is compatible with it.

Actually you need to be able to get into the BIOS to use qflash, so you do need the CPU and ram

I'm not sure but I think Q-flash plus lets you do it without, here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcRcpRZIjSs
