16gb 2400 vs 8gb 3200. (mobo supports up to 2666)

Hello, I jave been willing to get a better ram stick for my pc. Currently I have a mobo with up to 2666mhz speed, and 1x8gb 2400mhz installed.

Is it better to get another 8gb 2400mhz, or remove the other one and get 8gb 3000mhz.

(im running r5 1600x)

It's better you add the ram of same latency and speed! If you mono supports 2666 why the heck u need 3000mhz!

Just get another 8GB 2400 and OC them in the BIOS.

16GB 2400 > 8GB 3000.  8GB just isn't enough these days unless you run incredibly lean.

8 gigs is enough for most tasks, I almost never go over 5-6.

13.8GB in Ark right now.  Do you just run with no background tasks or don't game much?

Apex 1440p and War Thunder 1440p both max only use 6.7 for me.

if I were you, I would not use two separately purchased sticks. Sometimes they do not want to run in dual channel mode. In fact, even the same RAM models can be different (ie.: was made with micron chipsets, but later versions are with hynix and so on). No guarantee that they'll run in dual channel mode if purchased separately.

Either Go 2x4GB or 2x8GB. And your mobo-s frequency support is just a "general guide", it is probable, that you can run rams at higher clock speeds, esp with UEFI-bios updated.

Depends on your cpu too, though. And please, use dual channel. The greater bandwith will actually improve gaming performance by roughly 15% with ryzen. At least in my country, 2666-2400 and 3000-3200Mhz rams virtually cost the same (all CL16-CL15 timings..). No reason not to buy 3200Mhz sticks

Exactly! And they also have the benefit, that, when you run them at lower clock speeds (eg. 2666) due to Mobo restrictions, you have a greater probability of achieveing tighter timings-less latencies. (like running them on @CL14 and 2666Mhz)

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )
