GPU upgrade

I want to upgrade drom my GTX 980 to a new graphic cars that van handle 240hz 1080p gaming and High performance/quality Virtual Reality

and i want it to be future proof

You'll need a 9900K as well, most likely.  1080P 240Hz needs a very strong CPU.

 

I'd look at 9900K or 9700K maybe + 2080.

240hz is a gimmick, it's pointless and 100% placebo:

Just save your money on a 1080p144hz or then up your game to a 1440p144hz monitor.

The RTX 2070 is garbage, if you want future proof you gonna have to go with the RTX 2080, if you can't afford it then don't bother just get a Vega 64 or RTX 2060 for cheaper, these cards performs almost the same for significantly cheaper.

 

If you want 144fps+ your CPU is almost more important than GPU, like @jstudrawa mentioned at least an i7 8700K ~ 9700K~ 9900K because if you get CPU bound you can reduce your graphical setting all you want you'll not get more fps.
