Can't figure out why its using so much ram

Applications using max 800mb and shows 56% usage.. any idea whats going on ?

Besides the fact that your method of totaling RAM usage is flawed, the fact that you're using your iGPU while running Bluestacks and Chrome is likely a large part of the RAM usage (seeing as the iGPU relies on system RAM for VRAM).

Probably im missing or don’t know something.. about totaling ram

Non-paged pool is much higher than it should be (4.7GB vs. typically 300-500MB). While I would point to a leaky driver, since you're using BlueStacks which I believe is a VM, its RAM usage will count towards the Non-paged pool, which isn't counted in the memory tab for some reason.

 

If you close BlueStacks, does the RAM usage drop significantly?

If this is the same scenario but only with BlueStacks closed, then BlueStacks was using memory counted in the Non-paged pool, which as I mentioned earlier is not counted as the program's memory usage for some reason. Basically there's nothing wrong if this is the case.

Actually can you verify something for me?

 

  • Open up BlueStacks and use it until you see the high Non-paged pool usage again.
  • In Task Manager, go to the Details tab
  • Right click on the column headers
  • Choose "Select Columns"
  • Enable "NP Pool"
  • Check to see if BlueStacks has a high usage in the NP Pool column

Ok! Give me an hour or so I’ll try it out when i get back home

btw i missed out probably a big part.. 

i was using 2 bluestacks with 4GB dedicated ram each.

Only about 1mb usage

So taking this and firing up my VirtualBox VM, I noticed it doesn't add anything to the NP pool. Though I could've sworn the last time I fired up my VM it took space there (but then again that was a while ago and I recently updated to Windows 10 1903).

 

Digging around I found out that VMs can use memory that isn't reported by Task Manager or Process Manager by way of something called Driver Locked Memory (http://blog.luxem.org/2013/05/driver-locked-memory-on-hyper-v-guests.html), and the only way to see how much that's being used is through a tool called RAMMap.

 

And now we know :B
