I'd say 2 drives in Raid 0, but that's just me.

I would go for the most reliable option, but thats me, you don't really gain much going the other way...

I would get 1 500GB. Why? Because there is no point in complicating things further with RAID 0. Nothing will use that extra bandwidth. Nothing.

only raid them if you have a dedicated raid card.

No........ Motherboard raid works just fine for two or three drives.

Raid 0 those bitches! Bitches love raid 0!

haha jk, I'd go for 1 500gb SSD, because I like to wake up everyday, turn on my and start doing my stuff, without having any issue at all, reliable is good if you are not that patient.

If you don't really care and want to feel like you have that amazing super fast PC go ahead and raid!

Motherboards are quite decent with raid 1 and raid 0, it's on Raid 5 and 6 when they are slow and crappy

I have not issues at all with Raid O. (My 2 1 tb 840 evo's are doing just fine and giving me over 1gb of read and write speeds.)

Today with the SSDs we have, and much better motherboard controllers data is quite reliable.

But this doesn't mean that we are not adding another point of failure. Everytime you write to the SSD on raid 0, those bits get stripped into two separate devices, it can happen that a write gets done wrong, it's not very likely but it can happen. Unless you don't care about this, most of the times the user is better off by having 1 single drive
