I bought an used r620 from ebay. CPU temps are somewhat worrying... the two e5-2670s are idling at 45c. However, they load at only 60-65c. Should I worry about these temps?

Remember that a rackmount server is typically racked inside an actively cooled air conditioned room, below ambient temps (usually mid teens).

So by having it at home, it’s working overtime.

But that’s okay. CPUs are designed to operate at up to around 95C without damage (the exact figure depends on the specific model).

75C under load is perfectly safe.

You could probably lower those temps by simply replacing the old thermal paste with a new higher quality compound. I have seen as much as 10 degrees celsius difference on an old (4-5 years) server.

Was going to say this too, can't hurt. The heatsinks are pretty easy to remove, maybe a 5 minute job per CPU.

What is the temperature of the room the server sits in?
