Steam OS on Raspberry Pi?

Go to solution Solved by Shrubpig,

No, Steam OS is x86 just like Windows is. The Raspberry Pi is ARM.

I have heard about streaming with steam os, and I was wondering if I could install steam os on my raspberry pi to stream to my tv. I haven't seen anything on the internet that says that I can or can't use steam os on a raspberry pi.

While SteamOS is currently only compiled to run on x86, it can be compiled for ARM. The problem is that the Steam client itself is only compiled for x86 (and it's closed source), and will need to be compiled for ARM. Valve will have to do that part themselves, the rest of SteamOS should be easy to compile for ARM since it's opensource.

As @rashdanml said, the OS could be easily compiled however the Steam client must be done by Valve.

However I don't know if you have come across a program called Limelight. It can be installed on Android and Raspberry Pi and uses NVIDEA game stream to work so you must have an NVIDEA GPU for it to work.
