Is a cpu and ram upgrade worth it?

I currently run a core i7 4790k and a gtx 970. I understand the cpu is way overkill for my gpu but I was a dumb teenager when I bought this stuff so oops. I am looking to get an rtx card and was wondering if I should upgrade to a newer cpu namely for the upgrade from ddr3 to ddr4 memory. I was looking at the core i5 9600k but I am not sure if I'll actually see any significant benefits to a newer gen cpu and ddr4. I am looking for this computer to last the next 4 years at least so if it would be worth it in the long run to upgrade I'd rather do it now.

Just OC the 4790K and it'll be solid for another 4 years for you.  It's a strong CPU and will feed an RTX card well.

You can absolutely upgrade and still keep your GPU then upgrade GPU when you get pissed at the frame rates its dishing out.  You have waited this long wait a month and a half more as the new AMD Zen 2 CPU's are going to come out and for the price of a 9700k  you can get a 8 core or 12 core Ryzen but don't quote me on this.  Just rumors right now, until it comes out in July.

It's actually balanced, pretty smart buy

Don't think it's necessary, an RTX 2060 should perform really well with the i7 4790K, especially with a CPU overclock, you're set

hard to know, but RAM aside, the two CPU's perform very similarly, so it wouldn't be worth the upgrade, if you're really looking for an upgrade wait for Ryzen 3000 and see what it offers, but if you wanna upgrade the GPU you can do it now, or wait next year for Intel's GPU's or possibly new RTX GPU's (no rumors just speculation)
