Alright I can't help but think how the hell have these vulnerabilities not been found during all these years Intel was dominating and we're only finding about them NOW, after AMD have found such success with Ryzen? What have people been doing all this time?

Well its very hard to find security flaws this big because Intel has obviously patched out all the ones they could find. Because of this only the hard to find exploits are actually shipped in products and these exploits can take years to find and become public.

Research papers written in 2006 warned about it and Intel disregarded it. They have been known for a long time Intel didn't give a shit

Just keeping this here as a The x86 architecture is crap piled on top of more crap. I think it's getting to the point where I believe Intel engineers don't even know what their own CPU looks like anymore. This is why I have hope for RISC-V. We need a new architecture that lacks the backwards compatibility Intel chips need to succeed. UEFI is a step in the right direction with platform independent operating systems. However, the chance of having a new architecture succeed in today's world is slim but I'm still waiting for something to eventually put the final nail in the coffin of x86.
