I am going to do a pc upgrade around 400€. I have GPU already which is MSI GTX 1060 3gb. I just need MOBO, CPU and RAM and im not sure which CPU i should buy. AMD Ryzen 5 2600x has been pretty tempting choice bc its cheap and pretty good but there is another one named intel i5-9400. Both are 220€ atm in local finnish hardware store. Im kinda leaning towards AMD atm bc my brother works at the same hardware store and he can give me 45% sale for items which have been returned for not being compatible to buyer's system and the AMD's CPUs are the most returned ones for some reason. MOBO and RAM are both around 100€ but if i buy only 8gb ram first and later another kit of 8gb i could get 40€ more money for the CPU. What should i do? The pc is for gaming btw.

The 2 CPU are practically the same !

I would go for the Intel, you will nearly never have the compatibility issues of AMD with RAM ect...

What i mean is that Intel is the king of games CPU's

Yes, the 2600X is a great CPU, just make sure to not get RAM that is over 3200mhz, Ryzen loves RAM speed though so make sure to get something between 3000-3200, it's the sweet spot

Make you use ryzen compatible ram, if you use the 2600 with 3000mhz it will crash, it should be fine with 2933 and 3200

If you're formally an engineer, avoid responsibility. That's what senior engineers get paid for.

I cant wait so long my current cpu is amd fx-6300 and its 4 years old and its dying :(

Current leaks suggest that zen 2 (ryzen 3000) could be a fair bit better than the current cpu's, I think they will be released at computex end of the month, maybe it's an idea to wait for that. But i'd go with amd :)

How long can the deal last? it's only 2-3 weeks till Ryzen 3000 is announced

Really? never heard any issues with 2nd Gen Ryzen having a frequency of 3000mhz, strange

actually im gonna buy the stuff in June

Oh, well we should have tons of information by then, but anyway 45% off is a great deal, it's just that if Ryzen 3000 can't match or beat it from price/performance standpoint, then go with the 2600 or 2600X (they both overclock the same)

Well I've had lots of problems with my 2600 and 3000mhz, maybe im unlucky, but atleast ryzen "isnt supposed to work with 3000" dont ask me why

I us 3000mhz Ripjaws with a 2600. No issues. If you've seen issues it's simply individual part incompatibilities, and generally speaking that would be more an issue with the MOBO than the Ryzen chip.

The i5 9400 is going to provide higher framerates than the 2600X in gaming use. It's also preferred by Adobe products. In most other workflow software the Ryzen chip will likely deliver a bit more.

At 45% off, the 2600X would still be a better buy.

If you buy 1x8GB stick of RAM now, you will see significant performance loss until you're able to get the second. There is also no guarantee, even if you buy the same brand that the second stick will be compatible with the first. It's also cheaper per stick when you buy them in sets. My advice is to get your discounted CPU and go in on the 2x8GB RAM (3000-3200mhz DDR4).

I have a bad habit to watch youtube or twitch at the same time when i play and i think that amd is better at multitasking if watching steams/videos while playing is even multitasking. And thank you for the ram tip helped alot.
