Computrace Removal

So recently I bought an old used ThinkPad T420 because it was $55 and I love little tune up projects. It arrives as specified, I install an SSD and put a piece of rubber in to hold it. When I post and go to BIOS I am greeted by the Computrace notification by Absolute Software stating their crap about being a tracker. How can I get rid of this? I installed Ubuntu 19.04 on the SSD, I'm guessing it'd be easier in Linux to remove Computrace.

Specs:

  • i5-2450M @ 2.50Ghz
  • 120GB TeamGroup GX1 SSD
  • 4GB PC3

Can you flash a factory BIOS onto the laptop? That seems like it would be the most surefire way to remove it.

Call CompuTrace and offer them proof of purchase if asked.

It is very likely it was removed on the businesses end but it never reflected on their side. I had this with a X201T I purchased. They will remove it anyways, so long as you can prove you bought it legitimately.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

That's what I would assume, I can't find much about it though

I'll try that. I've heard Absolute doesn't acknowledge 3rd party purchases though.

You should be able to download a stock BIOS from Lenovo's site.

From there, you should be able to follow just about any BIOS flashing guide once you get into the BIOS.
