Considering an SSD

So my netbook is slower than balls, and I'm getting old age feelings from the hard drive in it. I have the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA with the Atom N270, and I was wondering what the best (and kinda cheap) SSD for me is. Right now I have a 160GB hard drive, in two partitions (one Windows 7, one for all my crap). I do write and delete a fair bit of stuff, but I was also thinking about getting a 16 or 32GB SD card to put stuff on. What would be the best replacement for my hard drive?

 

Also, would a Linux swap partition be bad on the SSD's life

Samsung 840 EVO 120GB

 

Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB

 

Seagate ST500LM000 500+8GB SSHD

 

Remember, I could care less about storage space as long as it's at least 120GB, and I want speed and quiet over raw storage space.

Holy nuts, that's epic. Sadly, I'll be using it in SATA II and in a netbook, so I might not get this performance. Still worth it though.

I would get a SSHD.

I would suggest get a cheap ssd for the OS (I think you need like 60gb tho) and then use the old hdd in an external enclosure to store your said 'crap'. Really the cheapest SSD you can find will be a great upgrade because they are fast enough and your speed bottleneck would change to the actual power of you CPU. I have a Kingston ssdnow which I think were on sale a couple of days ago so check that out for starters.

I would suggest the Evo, but sata 2 is a problem, maybe pick up an intel drive of some sort on a deal.

I dunno how well itd work with sata 2 because rapid caches to ram so you'd still get a pretty good speed bump over other ssd drives probably

I only have 1GB of RAM, so that would probably be a problem then.

I honestly think a 120GB, since this hard drive has all my important (and not so important) stuff on it, and if it wasn't for the file compression in Windows, I would have over 40GB of files alone, leaving only 20GB for the OS and programs.

I don't need a metric ton of storage though (it would all go to waste), and my netbook is loud enough, and I'm trying to get it as quiet as I can. let me consult the mighty NewEgg real quick.

Correct me if I am wrong but you need a 7mm SSD for most laptops/netbooks. so most SSD's are out. Good news, the Samsung EVO range are 7mm so thats good.

120Gb or 250GB Sammy EVO SSD will go great for you. and they are pretty competitively priced

sorry but IMHO the atom series just plain sucks balls in general  so I'm not too sure an SSD will do much, I could be wrong though, and only 1 gb of ram is LOW. though my colleague also has an atom laptop and had only 2 gigs of ram, 4 gigs didn't help it much, the cpu is permanently on 100% with the slightest workload.

Mine isn't bad, just this hard drive is killing any performance it did have. And when I OC the poor thing does pretty damn well. I never really use it for much other than LTT, music, Facebook, and eMail. And the occasional Plants vs. Zombies and Half-Life game.

If i were you I'd not want to spend much money on it, especially on a higher end SSD like the Samsung which wouldn't even be utilized fully. I'd just wait for a good deal and snag the cheapest SSD on the market.

Wait, does that thing have 1 or 2GB of RAM? My netbook is slow as balls because it only has 1GB and it's constantly using the pagefile. I tried a 2GB stick from my laptop and it was a lot faster. Also, it's just a netbook, you could save some money by getting a used SSD. (Like the OCZ Vertex in my laptop. My netbook has a 1six0GB HDD. (My laptop's six button is kinda broken))

1GB. I don't feel like getting a 2GB stick for it, since sometimes it doesn't work, apparently. That's why I was curious if a Linux swap partition would be bad for the SSD's life.
