CPU won't cool down

Go to solution Solved by hXcHector,

So here's the update. I contacted Corsair live chat and after going through the same old steps, they told me to disconnect the H100i v2 from my Corsair Commander Pro and to connect it directly to the CPU_FAN1 header on the motherboard. I did that and now it's fine and stable.

Hey everyone. I've had some issues with my PC on and off for a few months now. I'm almost sure it has to be some setting in the BIOS / UEFI. Or maybe all the programs that mess with CPU and RAM stuff saved something. Either way, my CPU keeps getting hot and my cooler is struggling to keep up. I've testing all my hardware and re-seated things multiple times. All hardware has been tested and some even RMA'd. The hardware all looks fine. I've cleared CMOS and even removed that battery on the motherboard once. It says all settings changed to default when I restarted the PC, yet the temps still climb to 97C.

CPU: Intel i7 5820K

RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum SE

Motherboard: MSI X99 Gaming Pro Carbon

PSU: CoolerMaster 800w Silent Pro Gold

Cooler: Corsair H100i V2

Many people say to look at the cooler. The cooler is fine. I've re-seated it multiple times and feel the vibrations. One tube is hot, one tube is room temperature. It's all hooked up fine and Corsair's iCue says its running well. It's actually getting hotter and hotter with the CPU.

I know you said it isn't the cooler, but I bet you it is.

Just because you feel vibrations doesn't mean the pump is working efficiently to the point of moving water properly.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Go buy a cheap 212 EVO, try temps with that.  You have to test it with another part to rule out the cooler, as you're wont to do.

The H100i V2's stock fans should be spinning at 2400 RPM under full load. Have you checked in HWMonitor to make sure yours are getting there? How about the pump, is it functioning normally? What you're describing comes down to the cooler installation or performance 9.9 times out of 10. My bet is that either one or both stock fans are failing or the pump itself is on the way out and not moving liquid as quickly as it needs to. If you have another cooler lying around, test with that. If not and if you're convinced it's not the cooler but need to rule it out anyway, Gammaxx 400s are $25.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I concur that it's a bad cooler. The pump may still be vibrating, but it's probably failing.

If it's still under warranty, RMA it.
