Hi guys,

I'm trying to install linux on my windows 10 box and dont know how the heck to get the full 'gui' experience - i'm having random errors or bugs and/or don't know which packages to download or which repositories to add and etc.

So, i was thinking ... maybe u LTT guys can make a video about this? i really love opensuse on my other box and it kinda 'just work' with a great overall out of the box experience + have the tools to get me going with just about anything that i need like installing hardware drivers and software.

I would really love to see a clip about this on your Youtube channel, also, it shouldn't be complicated for someone with some linux skills that are better then mine.

Thx & all  the best !

You can boot linux off of a USB stick, as seen in this video

Hi, thank you for your reply, i know that i can use a live session but i'm talking about the 'full experience' while enjoying my M.2 NVME RAID, GTX1080, 32GB 3600GHZ RAM .. etc etc.. i want a full desktop experience where i can setup and tweak the system to my optimal usage and use all of my 3 monitors and super fast hardware. Any insights ? ?

Have you looked into Type 1 VMs, if not this video would be a good thing for you

(watch it all, to get a good understanding of this kinda crap)

just saying, windows also has a type 1 hypervisor built in , hyper-v

I want to take advantage of the new linux integration into windows and just run both the windows on the same machine without having to dualboot and restart when i want to switch between os's.

I know VM and i don't like it's disadvantages, like how hardware resources are assigned.

The linux kernel into windows 10 integration is awesome because it allows to just open a remote desktop connection and type something like 127.0.0.1:5900 and then u get a full-on linux experience, the only issue is installing the packages needed for this to work and some random errors that i have came across.

Pop os works just fine with me, I'm only using it for browsing and esport games. Any other stuff? I haven't tried it yet.

Yes, you are right, it's a great distro and i'm actually re-considering the 'good ol familiar' dualboot option..

Maybe i'm not clear..

MS added many linux distro to the store, it is possible to just click and download ubuntu, opensuse, kali and many more now.

After the installation just click on the start menu and poof, linux.

But... you get a terminal/bash experience after the installation and i'm interested in a gui like gnome, kde, xfde, etc..

It shouldn't be difficult, if i only knew what i am doing.,

well thats not linux, its bash

THere is no full kernel running(let) so you can't run a full gui on it.

You need a vm for a full gui.

How are you getting a full experience if you run it on top of windows? This is like calling a Nintendo emulator on your PC as full Nintendo console experience.

Just why would you want to run Linux on Windows.

I just don't understand that. Nor can I think of any reason to. Dual boot or VM yes, maybe. But to actually run it ...............

Just why?

I you want/need to run Linux, just effing run it.

P.S.: Letting Microsoft into Linux is a bad idea. A really effing bad one.

Yeah. Big companies like Google and Microsoft have been poisoning the GNU Linux to some degree. Microsoft grabbing the kernel for their linux subsystem. Google grabbing it for their chrome os and Android. I suppose as long as they contribute code to the open source project,  they do not contradict the license but Linux development are in danger of being hijack down the road for corporate profit.
