Asus TUF FX705GM - thermal compound replacement

Hello, I have decided to replace a stock thermal compound in my laptop in order to achieve better thermals. However, when I removed the heatsink, paste was not applied only on the CPU/GPU chips. At least I hope that is thermal paste too. What is it used for? Can I just clean it off and apply new paste there as well? Thanks for tips.

I have never seen OEMs using thermal paste on chokes, are you sure that that computer hasnt been disassembled by someone else for cleaning before?

I am sure it was not. I bought it brand new from local shop few months ago. I also had that warranty sticker over one screw on the cpu heatsink.

Only Asus do that. If I remembered correctly Gigabyte did the same too but not sure

Use thermal pads on VRMs+chokes. Which thermal paste you use for CPU+GPU heatsink?

I bought Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. Would you recommend something else to me? For the pads, I have seen they come with various thickness (usually 0.5mm - 1.5mm). Which one should I get to do the trick? Thanks.

0.5mm should be fine since too thick will cause low mounting pressure, however every laptop is different

Best non-conductive paste, but only works well with good heatsinks

Great, I have no idea how should I rate my laptop’s heatsink ? I’m going to get those pads so I can get another paste too. What would be one right behind the Kryonaut?

Just check whether it has noticeable uneven core temps or not while CPU is under load

There are many: CM Mastergel Maker Nano, Gelid GC Extreme etc
