Something like this, you can buy another 8GB stick later which is important for Dual Channel

I would not start on Single Channel. Depending on the game there can be up to a 65% loss in FPS. Go with dual channel 2x4GB. You can still expand to 16GB by getting another 2x4GB and filling all 4 slots.

With an RX 570? he wouldn't be losing much FPS, certainly not 65%.. I don't recommend going for 2x4, that's wasting 2 slots

a little extreme...

fps loss is real tho, ryzen loves high speed dual channel

It's true. See here:

See at 36 seconds where the FPS is 103 vs 170: ~65% loss in FPS. Also note that this is on an Intel CPU, it's worse on Ryzen.

i do... ryzen really wants dual channel as much, if not more than high speed memory. it's not as extreme as mentioned above, but certainly noticeable

and the pro4 has 4 slots anyways

on a i5 8600k...

also ive never seen it THAT extreme, typically its 20%& at the very very very most

Ryzen 7 3700X / 16GB RAM / Optane SSD / GTX 1650 / Solus Linux

little really specific... but okay

it's not that realistic tho, in his case especially

tho i still am on the same line with you, go dual channel

Right, on an i5. It's even worse with Ryzen, which is even more memory sensitive. And yes this is with a 1080 Ti. And 65% is a worst case scenario. As seen in the video it's MOSTLY 30%-ish. But up to 65%.

Ofc Dual channel is important I said that in my first post but not 2x4, he might need 32GB in the future who knows, he certainly has the ability to upgrade his system in any way he wants considering the compatibility of future Ryzen CPU's

I know. It's just demonstrative, that's all. Point is, you'll still have a noticeable drop in FPS. Especially on Ryzen.

You don't seem to understand why Single channel drops in performance, if the GPU can't achieve a frame rate to where the RAM becomes a bottleneck then Single channel won't matter at all and you lose nothing

I mean he can still get 32+ by using 2x4 right now. You can fill it 2x4, 2x16 and have 40GB. No matter how you slice it, they should use dual channel now.

No I definitely understand. You said yourself, the 570 can reach about 100 FPS. Check that video again. At the 2:00 minute mark single channel drops into the 80s where the dual channel stays in the 130s. So it will still happen on a 570.

I said at low settings, but yeah it's up to him, I doubt he has a 144Hz monitor with an RX 570 anyway

All this aside, the data is real. Whether it's a 10% loss or a 50% loss, the gains are significant enough between single and dual channel that there is a clear path:

The OP made it clear that this is his budget, and he needs everything. So if that's the case, yes: 2x4 > 1x8 because he doesn't want necessary down-the-line purchases. So if the suggestion was some now and some later, you weren't reading the post.

3 months isnt anytime soon is it?

Well sure. It falls on you. You're still going to have a working PC until then, but it's going to lose some performance until you get a second stick.

So make sure you do get a second stick, make sure your first stick is between 3000-3200mhz, and make sure to get an identical stick for your second one.
