@LukeSavenije bring forth the PSU knowledge, i dont think the RM650X is supposed to whine a lot tho

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I recently bought an RM650x psu but it seems to have some (fairly noticeable) coil whine.
Wondering how common this is and whether I should get a replacement or just keep it as is.

Contact Corsair and see what they say.

The RMX has a good warranty.

Definitely coming from the PSU and not another component such as the graphics card?
If is the PSU and the noise is annoying, then either swap it at the store you bought it from or get in contact with Corsair customer support to swap it.

It is most definitely the PSU making noise and I guess I'll just swap it at the store from which I had purchased the PSU from.

Where are you located?  Using 115V mains or 230V?

You're sure the noise is coming from the PSU?

Is it really loud, or do you have to put your ear right up against it to hear it?

I am located in Finland and I believe I am using 230V but not sure.

I am fairly certain that the noise is coming from the PSU but it could be from the graphics card as well.

It's not loud all the time but when put under load it does become noticeable even with headphones on.

Ok.  If you can hear it with headphones on, it's too loud.

I asked what your mains voltage was (and it is 230V in Finland), because if the noise is coming from the PSU, it's going to be louder in some cases at 230V than it would be at a lower mains voltage (like 115V).

Do make sure it's not the graphics card.  I have a 2080 Ti here that "sings" at 14KHz+ under load and it drives me nuts.  I've tried a million things and the damn thing won't shut up.

Out of curiosity, what's the lot code of the PSU?  That's the first four digits of the serial number.

It's MSI branded, but it's a "Founder's Edition" (reference).

Have you tried to RMA it?

It shouldn't be doing that, and that loud?

I've tried more than one card.  They all do it. General consensus on the Internet is "it's normal."

A different brand card maybe?

I have a 2080Ti and it doesn't whine at all.

I wonder who makes your EVGA card then.  Though mine is branded MSI, it's made by whoever NVIDIA used to make the reference card.  There is an MSI version that isn't reference, but my water block doesn't fit on it.

I have the 2080Ti FTW3 Ultra so it's a custom PCB etc.
