hi all,

am planning to build my first PC in the near future. main usage for the pc is web surfing, youtube and MS office. I play games like xcom 2, Civ 6, football manager, fifa19, counter strike, SimCity and similar games no demanding games.

anyway I created a build online and was hoping for some opinions.

pc part picker list

I noticed that there are compatibility issues between the CPU and motherboard, wonder what other motherboard would be fine

thanks

A b360 board will only work with a ninth gen processor if it has the most up to date BIOS, if you can borrow an 8th gen CPU to update your motherboard then that would work.

Also since your tasks involve non demanding games, Ryzen is a great way to save money.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

That is the very definition of overkill for what you're using it for. A Ryzen 2400G, or if you can wait, a 3rd gen Ryzen with integrated graphics will be plenty for you without just flat out wasting money, and they hold up really well to an add in graphics card later if you start playing games that will actually need the power.

Try this build out:

The PSU has no price tag, looks to be an older model. Do you already own it?

thanks for the reply,

as I mentioned above am not very familiar with AMD products, and I know that intel integrated graphics are crap.

I would wait for a month or 2 but no more than that

If going Ryzen, this will need a bump in memory speed as well. 3000 is minimum, IMHO.

3000 is where you start to see diminishing returns, 2666 is definitely enough, and the possibility of an OC to 2933 is very realistic.

how reliable are those AMD cpus??? I remember years ago people used to stay away from them as much as possible (am almost 40)

The one era where AMD was to be avoided was the FX era, and that has come and gone. AMD is the comeback kid, new Ryzen is delivering white a blow to Intel because you get decent performance for significantly less money.

good to hear...

do you think investing in a better motherboard would be better for future upgrades if needed??

The Aorus motherboard from my last list is pretty good, but if you want a really great option there's always strix. Might as well get faster ram too then.

thanks a lot,

one last questions, I noticed that you removed the CPU cooler, I know that most CPUs come with their own fans and people always complain that they are either loud or they don't cool enough, no need for one here?

Intel ones are the ones to avoid. They get really high pitched. They're all aluminum and pretty bad for heating. The one that comes with the i7-8700 makes it thermal throttle...

The AMD ones are pretty quiet. I wouldn't do heavy overclocking on them, but they're fine for stock usage or a minor overclock.

The included wraith stealth is not a remarkably loud cooler, it will be adequate. The 212 that you had earlier isn't exactly a quiet cooler either.
