dual channel ram

So, I currently only 4G 1333mhz RAM and I found quite a nice deal on an 8GB RAM stick, but then I started looking into Dual Channel advantages but then a thought came into my head would 2 different size sticks (4 and 8.), same speed work as Dual Channel?

It will work but the motherboard will make both of the RAM sticks operate at the weaker sticks timings (if they have different timings).

what do you mean by "different timings"? do you mean the speed of the sticks?

No.

To make RAM run in dual channel (you need a dual channel compatible motherboard firstly)

You also require RAM dimm's to be the same size in GB and speed. Usually being the same brand and model as well.

oh well thats dissapointing

Uhhh, Not really. I have a 4 GB and an 8 GB stick and they run in dual channel. Not even the same brand (One being a Samsung stick and another being an SK Hynix) Speed however if im correct does need to match

This is not accurate. It can be done with different sizes and speed, It's not recommended but it should work, the board will run at the memory at the lowest speed and timings. Sometimes you will run into issues where it will slip out of dual channel at high amount of memory usage.

Depending on the board flex mode can be used if you have intel setup to help mitigate some of these issue.

Again doable but not recommended. Your mileage my vary.
