Sata III to sata II

So as the title imples if I put a sata 3 ssd into a sata 2 port can I expect 3Gbps if that is the only bottleneck? my Dell servers are only sata II and I am putting an ssd into the DVD drive bays for a cache drive and there are optional sata II ports on both servers that I can utilize outside of the sas connections for the backplane

Yep. You'll just have the 3Gbps bandwidth limit to worry about, which isn't a big deal to be honest. 300MB/s is still plenty fast. Two of them in a RAID0 will also stack to 600MB/s fine.
