Free components for PC repair shops?

pbhockey16

Has anyone gone in to a PC repair shop to see if the have bins of components they wouldn't use anymore like when Linus did in scrapyard wars before? I almost walked in to one the other day to ask about it but didn't want to bother them.

its unlikely they do but if they did they likely wont give it to you unless your buddy buddy with them or you pay for it.

Employees themselves often aren't even allowed to take components from the recycling bin, so keep that in mind if you ask for that stuff and they decline.

Fans. Mainly fans. Sometimes cables. But the thing is with countries that have better recycling system, old electronics are valuable for companies that handle them.

I've worked at a e-waste recycling center fixing and repairing computers and it was very frowned upon anything leaving free (and they did not understand depreciation value, they still wanted $50 for a 60gb HDD..) so I'd say that if you're well known enough or you know a guy who knows a guy that it'd be hard to really get much for free. But it all depends on the owner, no harm in asking as long as you're not a dick about it (and remember, beggars cant be choosers)
