I recently purchased another stick of RAM (hoping it would solve my issue). It has fixed some of the stuttering I was getting e.g GTA now runs fine however an underwhelming FPS on very high with motion blur off FXAA off TAA off - GPU usage around 68% with V sync off. Previously BF1 was unplayable however now it is playable with V sync on however when turned off I get lots of stuttering and my GPU usage is at like 60% and FPS anywhere between 100 and 50 (with to much stuttering to play). In rainbow on ultra preset I get like 160fps but my GPU usage is at like 85% but on low preset is like 50%. Ravenfield is unplayable as my GPU and CPU are at around 25% no matter how many bots i use and with anything over 80 drops below 60. My CPU is at 4 ghz now and even after getting the new RAM stick other than a small bit of stuttering being solved hasn’t really changed anything. All my temps are okay and I am very confused as to why my usage is low when I’m getting below 60 in some titles e.g GTA 5 and ravenfield. I ran load tests on both my CPU and GPU under max load and they both can reach 100% stable and cool. In BF4 my GPU runs at 97% and i can't work out why it is in BF4 when it's getting over 160 fps at ultra but when i turn some settings down my usage goes down so i get almost no fps gain. What could be causing this?? Thanks in advance to anybody that responds.

My system specs

CPU - Ryzen 5 1600x (4.0ghz)

GPU - EVGA RTX 2060

RAM - Corsair Vengence LPX (3000mhz)

HDD - Seagate Barracuda (2TB)

CPU Cooler - GAMMAX 400

MOBO - MSI B350 PC mate

At 1080P your CPU is bottlenecking the GPU.

Well known issue with AMD CPUs and 1080P and higher end GPU's.

At 1440P this is not an issue however.

but my CPU usage is way less than my GPU. also when i watch videos with the same combo the GPU seems to have no issue reaching 100%.

Doesn't matter. ;)

Your cpu is holding back the GPU at 1080P, that's causing the problems.

It's a very well known problem.

MAX out the graphics settings on the games, that will help some.

It's not an exclusively AMD thing only. It depends on the situation. For all you know he's running low settings, even Intel's at some point reach their max fps.

But when i look at similar systems (1600x with a rtx 2060) there is no issues.

It depends on the situation, watch the video. Additionally, what the video doesn't explain, try increasing GPU features AA to increase GPU load. No point in not using the excess GPU capability.

Also I don’t think it can be my CPU as when I overclocked it it made no difference in performance of my GPU or any real noticeable difference in overhall system performance.

Doesn't matter what you do to your CPU, it just isn't powerful enough to keep up at 1080P.

Max all the settings out and see if that's any better, max out AA 1st.

Maybe you should reinstall windows. I have a old CPU much worse than yours but better GPU and can run GTA V at over 60 fps all ultra at 4K so CPU really doesn't make a difference to that game. If you are getting sub 60 fps in the gta 5 benchmark and seeing cpu/gpu use less than the 90s at the same time then it's a different problem. GTA V is not hard to run.

Could also DDU and reinstall drivers, but at this point I would reinstall windows. If your system is bogged down with windows issues then it will straight up perform poorly in all games and programs.

PS: I have play BF1 at 4k ultra with very solid 60 fps. My CPU hold me back in this game. With a 2060 and not potato CPU you should be able to easily run at ultra in BF1 with 1080p and over 100 fps most of the time.

if i reinstall windows do i loose all my saved things and have to reinstall all my games? Also you were talking about 4k where that would mainly rely on the GPU not the CPU so your CPU could be a potato and not make much difference i'm trying to play at 1080p though so isn't that the issue? did you try 1080p or even 1440?

is there a way to play with a 1440p resolution on a 1080p monitor? i get i wont be able to see it but it should at least get my GPU usage up.

I believe you can increase your native resolution through Nvidia Control Panel

go to---->manage 3d settings

select program settings if you want to test a specific app or game

and where you see DSR factors: it should been by default off, click on it to choose your desire resolution scale(1.20x or 1.50x all the way up to 4.00x) your native resolution

but GTA 5 has this option in the advanced graphics settings,go ahead and try it.(at the last bottom).

assuming  that you are already running MSAA x8, and you want to push your gpu even further.

I can guarantee you (140%) that it is not CPU problem. To me that looks like software issue.

Worst case scenario, you could try to clean install Windows, then install latest drivers.

Is CPU clock speed constant or does it jump around?

how would i do a clean install? And if i did would i have to re install everything back onto my HDD?

You would have to wipe clean the boot partition of your HDD (if you have one, if not, whole HDD) and re-install software to it.

Random question, but did you use that HDD in other system?
