Possible issues with the new Nvidia driver update?

JamesHewitt

Basically, updated driver, ran the 3d mark Ray tracing benchmark and a little bit after my 1080ti seems to have bricked it...

Anyone else heard of something similar with this update?

By bricking, there's no video output period, even when showing the boot screen?

Yeah, the gpu doesn't show anything at all, no signal both with dp and hdmi. Monitor works fine with other computer.

Pc also works, I waited a bit and tried logging in and it worked based on my stream deck loading and audio playing.

I believe some people have tested the latest drivers on various cards and it seemed to have come out just fine.

Outside of driver version 364.72, which wasn't really clear on why a rather tiny percent of people's cards allegedly broke, there hasn't been a problem and I don't see how this one would cause any real hardware problems. The only other thing I can think of is if the driver update is also updating the firmware for some reason (which as far as I know is never a thing) but bricking results from the act of updating itself being botched.

If this really is a big enough problem, then I'm sure you'll hear about it in the next day or so because this is one of the more anticipated driver updates.

You can run the Port Royal Ray Tracing benchmark on non RTX cards?

The latest drivers allow Pascal GPUs from GTX 1060 6GB and better and GeForce 16 cards to allow ray tracing in applications that use DXR, which Port Royal does.

No shit? Excuse my language but that's pretty cool.

that's a very serious issue if true, have no clue how a driver would mess up a card, but possibly this isn't even related, and you somehow messed with BIOS settings?

You say you tested the monitor on a different system, well.. try testing the graphics card on a different system.

That's the next step I would take as well, if your gpu doesn't work in another system then it might actually be dead.

I'll give the gpu a test in a new system come morning. I always do clean driver installs and remove overclock but hopefully it will work.

Nice I'm updating my drivers and reinstalling Metro Exodus on steam as we speak. How was the performance? I'm also getting Port Royal going on 3DMark.
