120mm rad enough for 1600x ?

Go to solution Solved by Happycowdance,

120 should be enough to cool a 1600x

go look at the clock speed chart while running a stress test and see if they drop off suddenly and you'll know that it is thermal throttling

So I have a question. Would a 120mm corsair radiator be enough to cool a AMD Ryzen 1600x ? Also, how do I know if it's thermal throttling? AIDA64 Doesn't show me the "thermal throttling thingy" when stress testing the cpu?

Help

it's enough unless something goes wrong, but there's no objective reason why a 120mm AIO is better choice than an air cooler

Will probably heat soak very quickly, if you have room, go as big as you can, this will give you better cooling and lower noise. I'd only ever use a 120 if there was a major space limit.
