ikr! its depressing haha ill just have to import one if i decide to go quad sli, only problem would be driver support but with titans i guess they sorted that out for now, and for the 780ti's i wouldnt have a clue I havnt seen many tests done in quad i guess the jump from 2+ is only minute anyways

Honestly I wouldn't go any higher than 2 card SLI, after that performance falls off a cliff.

How serious are You about Video editing?

Pretty much important to know, aside from that I would still go X79 just to get the double x16 pci-e slots.

So hard to suggest a case. And I went with a clean look that the EVGA cards have. black/grey as much as I could. This has an AIO so it's easy to set-up.

Again for storage.. well you mention'd video editing so I just went with a 3TB drive, but because we have no idea what program you will use, impossible to give you a good idea for how much storage you need. But you probably have a decent idea yourself. So yeah here it is. Will handle 4K pretty oke for now.

Hey everybody i'm planning on building a killer PC that is ready for anything well mostly gaming and video editing etc and of course bragging rights ;)

So im making this thread to ask for recommendations just to make sure i don't overlook anything and that i've seen all my options you know the drill :P

Budget: $15000NZD max willing to spend a lot less! (Location New Zealand) Money is not an issue with this build i've been saving for a long time :P

Aim: As stated above, video editing, and gaming on the latest titles maxed out, a 4K ready system would be amazing.

Monitors: i've got that sussed no need to suggest anything there :)

Peripherals: Again i've got that sorted

Why? Because its time for a new build that I can enjoy for awhile haha you don't want to know what i'm gaming on at the moment :L

And finally full watercooling is an option too that i'm willing to undergo, silence is up there on the list but not too much of an issue, as long as its not a hair dryer im okay with it :P

Opps I forgot to mention this build is a maybe as i'll possibly be going off to basic training next month, i'm on standby at the moment but if thats not happening just yet ill have half a year off to enjoy this beast. And if I do end up getting the call i'll be digging up this thread during the mid year to check out all the new hardware!

A alienware might just cost about that much. Just Kidding, I have no idea on what to reccomend, I'm still picking out my parts.

Mouse: Razer Death Adder 2013 Keybaord: Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2013

Off topic: But seeing that you're from Paraparaumu, I just imagined all the americans / foreigners trying to pronounce that and it made me laugh :D

At first I read it as $1500 and thought, that's not going to get you much. But then re-read and saw it said $15,000. Now we're talking. It seems a lot of people don't understand the word "max" and ignored the fact you said "willing to spend a lot less" before telling you not to spend that much. But parts here in New Zealand are a fair bit more expensive (and harder to get. Aka we don't have a huge range like in the US), so $15,000 isn't entirely crazy. I mean, it's still cheaper than a maxed out Mac Pro :D

If I were building with $15,000, I wouldn't be going with a 4960X or anything like that, I would just straight onto a hard core Xeon! Spend $5000 on a CPU because you can :D At least you'll have like 12 cores and 24 threads :D

Then get a couple of titans, a beast motherboard, a crap tonne of ram and put it all in a nice case with custom watercooling and an awesome power supply and you're away laughing.... with a pocket that feels significantly lighter.

Edit: The CPU I'm referring to is something like this: http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=20404

haha thanks for the reply bro ! finally someone that can understand our pain :| and thanks for the Xeon suggestion ill be looking into them, i completely ignored them because they are built for servers but i guess thats not their only use its just the price to performance ratio that throws people out of whack eh :P

haha wow alienware is crazy expensive here, for the best model with a descent monitor its about 10K + where as you could build the same thing for almost half the price, damn import charges ;)

You're better off getting a $3000 PC today, and upgrading every two years. It'll be funny when a system that costs $3000 in 6 years time or so will completely DESTROY your $12k system.

Here is my updated version. Upgradeable as well and still pretty expensive. But that's because of the insane NZ prices. Just so other people DO understand it a little bit. In the US this system would cost you $2.300 USD.

I as well have to ask you, what "theme" do you want. Any prefered colors? I had no idea so I went with a very clean and simple look.

Why I picked these parts?

CPU: the haswell chip will be more then good enough for "hobby" 3D modeling. If you really are doing this a lot and want the absolute best speed there is out there, then yes we should consider X79. But could you give us the exact software programs you will use? I have to admit, I have no idea about android developing and how demanding it is on a system. And I sadly can not find much info when I try to google it.
CPU Cooler: This thing is damn good. Here is a pretty good review of it with noise level and performance. The problem I have is.. I could not find any good static pressure fans at the 140mm mark. Can consider the Noctua NF-P14 and place the cooler in a pull config so you don't see them or the Bitfenix PRO. (but they have blue or red leds, wich went away from my clean theme.)
Mobo: Solid board, great components, looks clean and 5 year warrenty. (unless you bend the CPU pin... grr)

RAM: RAM is RAM. There are a few other options if you want a pure black look. But I just went with these because I like how they look.

Storage: 500GB SSD for your OS, Editing software and the games you need. 3TB drive for the data files. I mean, suggesting storage is always hard to do since I have no idea how much you need. So change this if necessary.

Video card: Best card currently on the market, I actually do suggest to just get 1 for now. Then wait and see how well the games go on your 4K monitor. Then add a 2nd one when you feel the need for it. A single 780Ti should do oke for the time being. I have no benchmarks for the card yet for 4K tho, but can sort off take the 1K (1080p) frames and devide them by 4. It's not exactly like this, but should give you a decent idea.

Case: Again a thing wich is always hard to suggest. But this fitted my clean look quite well. You could consider a bunch of other cases tho, such as the Fractal Design R4, NZXT H440, Corsair 540 air.

Case fans: As I did say at the CPU cooler part, I can't really find any clean looking 140mm static pressure fans. So I kept the stock ones here and suggest you 2 140's at the front and 1 as exhaust. While setting up your AIO as push (thus exhausting the air)

Power supply: I went for a clean looking PSU again. This one has flat all black cables. I went for the 850 because of this review. I would not feel to comfy with an 750W when you place the 2nd 780Ti in this system.

wow a lot of effort went into this from what i can see (: thats a great build recommendation and thanks ! android dev is mostly CPU heavy and more ram the better in some cases but 16gb should be plenty i can always upgrade later if i need to like ya said its a very upgrade-able build! as for colour scheme blue or clean black im not too fussed but if i can get the best of both worlds then why not haha. and for the fans idm about looks aslong as i get adequate cooling i mean we all know how good noctua are at making the best ugly ;) only kidding i dont really mind the colour scheme as long as it works

Oké cheers. Well I can't really find much benchmarks or anything. But the i7 4770K is perfect for heavy use. I have an i7 2600K wich is doing my rendering work perfectly fine (ofcourse not android stuff), sure it's not SUPER fast, but it's not slow by any means.

If you don't mind colors to much, you can just replace the fans with Noctua's. 3 times an NF-A14 and 2 NF-P14's.

But the colors, so you don't like blue or clean black? I am sorry, not native English speaker here and just want to be sure. I can really get a whole lot of colors with some changes here. I personally LOVE the sabertooth boards and you can just get whatever color ram you want and trow in some matching fans. Hell if you really want it to look clean you can get custom made cables or cable extensions. There are a good few options when it comes down to coloring the build without losing any performances.

Uhm, after re-reading it a little bit, do you even want a windowed case? I mean, a window is nice if you can look inside it every now and then, but if you don't give a monkeys about it, we can actually change a few things here and there to get it a little bit cheaper. Without losing performances.
