I'm planning to buy a gaming rig around $1000. Is this a good build or are there any improvements that I can make to this particular build?

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC
Memory: 2666MHZ Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB(2x8)
Storage: 2TB Seagate Barracuda
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2060 Gaming OC
Case: NZXT H500 Black
PSU: Corsair RM550X 80+ Gold

Also, is it worth building a pc now, considering the fact that supposedly the ddr5 ram and newer gen cpus are coming later this year?

nah, not even servers are using DDR5 yet. Those usually get half a year (at least) head start before consumer platforms.

3rd gen Ryzen was supposed to be launched in July? Later this month the architecture is expected to announce in Computex so if your current system is bearable, don't build yet. If it's slow and awkward, get something you can reuse later like an SSD, a cooler etc.

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Swap 2TB HDD for a crucial mx500 (personally only use the Samsung drives) and add additional storage.

HDD’s are way way way too slow compared to SSD’s

AMD is supporting AM4 Socket until 2020 so DDR5 for Ryzen based cpu's until then at least.

So should I wait for the ryzen 7's prices to drop when the 3000 releases? Or should I just buy a ryzen 5 or 7 now?

Why? It just does not make sense dude.

you have a grand budget, better start with a SSD. Add additional storage after in my opinion.

Apart from the lack of SSD as already mentioned, that is a solid build. Maybe go with 3000MHz - 3200MHz Ram but otherwise a good spec.
