manufactures are just taking advantage of that fire that realistically only affected about 10% of the memory market. They are just price gouging at this point.

But since 2014 is the year of DDR4, we should be looking forward to the newer modules. Let's hope it's not too dear when it releases.

A HUGE factory burned down a little bit ago and jacked the prices up.

This is not the reason. All the vendors just came together and agreed to raise prices because they weren't making much profit. I recently got Patriot 16GB 1600MHz Viper for a customer's build for $120 after watching the price stuck at $167 for 5 months, saved some money there.
