Prolimatech Megahalems help.

Go to solution Solved by helping,

1) The crucial WAM sticks are pretty low profile, so I don't think there should be a problem there. If not you can always rip off the heat spreaders.

2) ??

3) Silent wings should be nice. Black goes with everything. Maybe Air penetrators or Typhoons if you can find legit ones.

4) Yes and no. Cooling slightly yes, noise no, reliability no, aesthetically, well that's your opinion but IMO no.

So, I will be doing some upgrades in a few months and I wanted a new CPU cooler for my main rig so I can put my Seidon 240M in my AMD rig. It needs the cooling power, so why not.

Now, I was looking at coolers and what I want is a 140mm-based air cooler. I was looking at the Prolimatech Megahalems. I know the Megahalems doesn't come with fans, but I really like the cooler. I do have questions, of course.

1. Will I have RAM/VRM/Case clearance issues with either of the coolers? I have a Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H, 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport and a Corsair C70 Arctic White.

2. Will the Megahalems mount easily enough? I really like the cooler, and Prolimatech in general.

3. What fans should I use with the Megahalems? Keep in mind that I do not want Noctua or Corsair fans. Noctua fans do not match my color scheme and Corsair fans are pretty crap.

4. Will I be downgrading from my current cooler with the Megahalems?

1. and 2. Should fit fine man

3. Noiseblockers?

4.Maybe by a few degrees but the overall noise should drop.

EDIT: It should be a "bit" of a problem if you have large hands.

Basically, the second question is me asking if it's a pain to mount. I have fairly big hands. Also, what thermal paste do you recommend?

Also, I think it looks better than a 240mm AIO.

As long as it isn't too difficult to mount where I decide to go back to my AIO, I am okay with it.

oh I have no idea is what I meant. It doesn't look too big so it shouldn't be that bad.

The paste it comes with should be plenty good since it's not a cheap piece of fail.

Arctic Silver 5 is my favorite :)

AS5 was good back a few years ago. Now there are much better out there for not much and a lot of times the paste that comes with the heat sink is comparable if not better.

1. No problem. Even with a fan installed for push on the Megahalem.

2. They are easy to mount. You just have to lay the motherboard/case flat for easier mounting

3. Any fans of your choice/budget will do. As long as it is static pressure optimised. Maybe others can recommend you some

4. Downgrading?Yes. But not so much that you can't run it with your current OC'd cpu.

As for the Silverstone 139mm Air Penetrators, will they work?

139? As long as they have standard mounting holes there should be no issue

It's pretty funny that they are 139mm. They will probably be fine though if I go with them. If only there were 140mm Gentle Typhoons.
